In January, I was expecting an email from my daughter’s school and when it didn’t arrive in my mailbox, I went searching in my junk mail. I didn’t find the email from school, but what I did find there is making some serious waves for my business.
Two years ago, I emailed the two major birth pool manufacturers to see if I could purchase pools and liners directly from them. I began a conversation with one that turned into our Birth Pool in a Box rental distribution agreement last year, but I never heard from the other…until eight weeks ago.
Their email completely surprised me – instead of the direct purchase agreement that I’d hoped for, they instead invited Buoyant Birth to become the newest sales distributors of La Bassine pools and related products.
As January turned into February, my husband Steve and I secured an agreement with an international shipping agent and began the process of getting 6800 pounds of pools to Texas. The pools set sail from Asia on March 10th and today, they’re about 200 miles off the coast of California. They’ll land in Long Beach tomorrow, catch a train to Dallas, and be delivered to our warehouse by a truck.
We anticipate the shipment being on our shelves by mid-April and are planning to officially launch the sales business on April 22nd – a special day for us, as that’s our son Noah’s birthday. His birth was when we were introduced to inflatable birthing tubs and we spent many hours in the birth pool together laboring to bring Noah into the world.
As always, Steve and I are incredibly grateful to the midwives, doctors, doulas, and expectant families who have trusted us on their most special days. Every day, we are humbled that we have this opportunity to serve and are delighted to share a bit of our story with you today.
